All for the purpose of building up the kingdom of God.
In 2008, the leadership of Mid Valley felt led to plant a new church in Leon, Nicaragua by teaming up with Pastor Pedro Espinoza who had been on our staff in Woodburn for four years. Today we continue to partner with them and their several branches of ministry, including the E.R.A. After School Program and a program to feed those in need. Soon, we hope to see a medical mission established through the church as well as a school for skill development like carpentry, electricity, welding, computer, English ESL… all for the purpose of building up the kingdom of God.
(Comunidad Cristiana Iglesia)
My name is Pedro Espinoza and I am the pastor of Community Christian Church in Leon, Nicaragua. We are a sister church to Mid Valley Community Church in Woodburn, Oregon. I am glad to be part of this ministry where people are loved and welcomed, where the grace of God is preached and where freedom is proclaimed. It is our dream that the people that are part of this congregation will love the lost as Jesus loved them, make disciples and plant churches. We dream of a healthy church where people will come and find rest, freedom, forgiveness and salvation in Jesus Christ.
Educate, Relate, Activate
We exist to evangelize and connect the local community of Leon to Comunidad Cristiana Iglesia (Community Christian Church) through a quality after-school program. This program serves to extend the daily education of our youth and provide them a stronger pathway to future success through their studies and the power of the gospel. We seek to reinforce and support the familial relationships of our students while engaging our local church body in the opportunity to serve and bless the program.
The need for an after school program stems from the Leon school day structure. School days in Leon are very different from a school day in the United States. The students attend each class, receive instruction for the subject, but are left to do the bulk of their school work at home without any guidance from teachers. Many parents do not have the educational strength to help their students, so many students drop out and end up working with their parents in the streets before even reaching high school.
This is where the E.R.A. program steps in to support these students with homework help and tutoring, along with biblical studies and social and emotional skills. They are also fed a nutritious meal before going home at the end of the day. Sponsorship dollars go directly toward certified teacher wages, school supplies and food. Currently four teachers serve more than fifty students with two cooks to feed the students.
Want to be a part of this ministry? Sponsorship opportunities are available at the links below either by monthly contributions or one time donations. The program costs $300 per student per school year. All donations are tax deductible. There are several options to contribute to the E.R.A. After School Program:
